Landlords, Tenants, and Coverage. OH MY!

You’ve got tenants! You’re a landlady! You get to make the rules! But how do you make sure the people sleeping under your roof are going to respect it as much as you would? Well, for starters you require all tenants to purchase an insurance policy to coverage their personal contents, as well as their own liability.

Renters insurance policies are very basic policies. The reason for that is, we only care about insuring a renter’s things and liability. The home isn’t theirs! If something were to happen to it like an electrical fire, a natural disaster, anything unexpected, it would be covered under a homeowners insurance policy that you as the owner of the home will need to obtain, if you haven’t already. A tenant’s job is to take care of themselves.

Do yourself a favor and require all tenants to carry renters’ insurance policies. They are relatively cheap and are important when things go wrong.
